ALLAN
HANCOCK COLLEGE FOUNDATION AWARDS
$10,000 LAW ENFORCEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
|
The
Allan Hancock College Edwin O'Neill Law Enforcement Scholarship in the
amount of $10,000 has been awarded to Maria Mendoza of Santa Maria, an
administration of justice student at the college.
Maria
garnered a cumulative 3.29 GPA while attending Allan Hancock College, and
earned an associate in arts degree in liberal studies.
She graduated in May, and has begun studies at CSU San Diego where
she is majoring in criminal justice.

While
carrying a full load of classes at Allan Hancock College, she worked
part-time as a bilingual instructional assistant at Arellanes
School, and as a teacher's aide at Robert Bruce School.
She also worked with Allan Hancock College's English as a
Second Language program, and was an advocate in Santa Barbara
County's victim-witness program for victims of crimes.
Her
career goal is to become a special agent for the Federal Bureau of
Investigation.

Edwin
O'Neill was a pioneer in methods of scientific detection in law
enforcement in the 1930s and a longtime professor at the University
of California, Berkeley. His
endowed bequest under the Allan Hancock College Foundation generates
annual scholarship funding to students committed to careers in
investigative law enforcement.
